Artist Statement
Growing up in New York City, I learned early on that being open and present in the world holds the key to realizing my dreams. New York is a composition of faces, stories, and cultures that always seem to make their way into my art and inform my practice. Many of my portraits are painted to bring light to the interpersonal connection that arises when people share their stories and empathize with others. I employ a “stream of consciousness” method of working in which I start with no plan, granting my subconscious the agency to create. I deeply immerse myself in every studio session so I can access the flow state of being purely in the zone of natural creation.
The content of my work reflects the complexity and heaviness of emotions in our human experience. I paint to make myself and my viewers feel things that cannot be expressed with words; I paint to get closer to expressing that which can only be felt.
